PUTRAJAYA: A Buy Malaysian goods campaign will be launched on Jan 16 by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to boost domestic economic growth.

Its minister Datuk Shahrir Samad said it would be hard for local producers to rely on export markets with the global economic meltdown and this campaign would help them continue growing.

KUALA LUMPUR: Amid the gloomy economic climate, taxpayers will still have a reason to smile when filing their 2008 tax returns.

Employees will enjoy more goodies in the form of new tax exemptions for a host of things, as announced in the Budget 2009.

KLANG: Restaurateurs have begun to reduce food prices of local favourites like the roti canai, teh tarik, fruit juices and fried chicken to lure customers.

The customers will now pay between 10 and 50 sen less for the items in most Indian restaurants.

Roti canai is down to 90 sen from RM1.20, while teh tarik is RM1.40 now, compared to RM1.50 earlier.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Meteorological Department has issued an orange-stage warning of moderate with occasionally heavy rain in several areas in Terengganu and Pahang which is expected to continue until Saturday.

PETALING JAYA: Petrol and diesel prices have been slashed by another 10 sen effective today.

The price of RON97 petrol is now RM1.80, while RON92 is selling at RM1.70 a litre.

The pump price of diesel is now RN1.70 a litre.

PETALING JAYA: From Tuesday, motorists whose passengers are not belted up will be stopped by police. However, instead of summonses they will be issued advisory notices.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has introduced a calender feature on its website which allows customers to view the lowest fare available over a week.

PETALING JAYA: Ten banks have reduced their fixed deposit (FD) rates following Bank Negara’s recent cut in the key interest rate.

More are expected to follow suit over the next few weeks, an official from the Association of Banks said.

PETALING JAYA: Petrol and diesel prices at the pump are down 10 sen today, with RON97 petrol at RM1.90 a litre and RON92 petrol and diesel at RM1.80.
